Salukis Drop Series Opener With Racers

Carbondale, Ill. - The Southern Illinois Salukis dropped to 30-15 (11-11 MVC) on Friday evening as they dropped the first of a three-game series with Murray State. Both teams tallied five hits a piece but an error for the Salukis and timely hits for the Racers made the difference.
Hannahh Hockerman made the start in the circle for the Salukis but had a short day as she was replaced by Madi Eberle in the second inning with one out. Hockerman only gave up one hit on a bunt single but allowed four free base runners between hit batters and walks as the Racers got out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning.Â
Southern got its first base runner on in the second inning on a line drive single to left from Bailey Caylor as she extended her hitting streak to six games while also tallying a hit in 12 of her last 15 games played.Â
Elizabeth Warwick and Emma Austin both had two hits on the day as well, including a double from Warwick. Both Southern and Murray State totaled five hits on the day despite the Salukis being held scoreless.Â
The Salukis are back at Charlotte West on Saturday at 2PM for Senior Day as they'll recognize Aubree DePron, Tori Schullian, and Kerrigan Gamm. The recognition will take place following the game on the field near home plate.Â
