Salukis Score A Season-High 17 Runs At Evansville

After not scoring in the first inning, SIU scored three or more runs in each of the next four innings including seven in the second. Eight different Salukis recorded a hit for Southern as they tied their season-high of 14 for the third time this season. Of the 11 Salukis to take an at-bat, 10 got on base at least once.Â
The Salukis offense got going in the second inning after a trio of walks from Tori Schullian, Sidney Jones, and Emma Austin led off the inning before before Aubree DePron drove in the first run beating out an infield single. From there the hit parade began as the Salukis offense put up numerous season-highs both individually and as a team.Â
Elizabeth Warwick continued to be a problem at the plate for opponents as she went 3-for-5 with a double, two stolen bases, and career-high seven RBIs. Lis's seven RBI's also tie a program-record last met by Maddie Vermejan in 2018. Jackie Lis, Rylie Hamilton, Aubree DePron, and Emma Austin each recorded two hits as well. Austin got on-base in all four plate appearances and scored each time for a season-high four runs. Bailey Caylor recorded a season-high three RBIs including a two-RBI single in the second inning while also tallying two runs of her own.
Madi Eberle got her 13th win of the season giving up just one run through three innings of work before Hannah Hockerman came in for the final two innings. Hockerman recorded three strikeouts while giving up just one hit to finish the game.Â
Southern Illinois will continue its weekend series with Evansville at 2 PM Saturday afternoon for game two.Â
