
Saluki Alum Deanna Price Claims Bronze Medal at World Championships

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois University track and field alumna Deanna Price is bringing home a bronze medal after finishing third in the women's hammer throw at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, on Thursday night.
Price posted a mark of 75.41m in the fifth round of the hammer throw, leading to the third-place finish and bronze medal-winning performance. The former Saluki was joined on the podium by fellow American Janee Kassanavoid, who finished second and won a silver medal in the event.
Four years ago, Price took home a gold medal after finishing first at the 2019 World Athletics Championships, which took place in Doha, Qatar.Â
At Southern Illinois, Price was a two-time NCAA champion in the hammer throw, an MVC champion in the hammer throw, weight throw, and shot put, and was a five-time All-American. The Olympian was with the Salukis from 2011 to 2016.Â
Price was inducted into the Saluki Hall of Fame in 2021.
