CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University women's soccer team (1-1-1) is hosting Southeast Missouri State (SEMO) on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Lew Hartzog Track and Field Complex.

- Kaitlin DuCharme scored the lone goal for the Salukis off of a first-half free kick to level the match at 1-1. DuCharme has now scored two goals in three games for SIU to start the year.
- Only Northern Iowa's duo of Lauren Heinsch and Macy Smith have scored more goals among Missouri Valley Conference players than DuCharme has so far in 2023.Â
- The Salukis have begun the campaign 1-0-1 at home. In 2022, Southern Illinois put up a record of 4-3-3 at home and 4-2-1 on the road.
- On the offensive end, SIU has scored three goals as a team. McKensey Bunch has scored one to go along with DuCharme's two.
- Freshman Ava Pugliese tallied the first assist of her Saluki career in the season opener on Aug. 17 against Jackson State. Pugliese found Bunch, who scored from outside the penalty area for SIU's first goal of the season.
- Goalkeeper Ary Lougher has started Southern Illinois' last two games. In those two appearances, Lougher has posted 15 saves and allowed three goals.
- Chantelle Symes started the first match of the season for SIU, allowing one goal and making two saves in SIU's 2-1 win over Jackson State.
- Defenders Riley Maulick, Molly Tapak, and Kylie McDermott have played every minute of the first three games, with each player totaling 270 minutes played.
- Graeme Orr is in his first season as head coach of the women's soccer program. Assistant coaches Carley Kandel and Ash Phillips are also in their first year with the Salukis, while Jake Edwards returns for his second season as a graduate assistant on the coaching staff.
- Orr comes to SIU after spending the previous 12 seasons as the head coach at Division II West Alabama. He was announced as the Salukis' head coach on May 30, 2023.Â
- The Eaglesham, Scotland native, was the first head coach in West Alabama women's soccer history, starting the program in 2011. During his 12 years with the program, Orr posted an overall record of 115-78-19 and conference record of 79-44-9.
- UWA recorded 10-consecutive and had 11-straight postseason appearances under Orr.Â
- Orr was previously an assistant coach at North Alabama before arriving at West Alabama.Â
- The Redhawks have also started the year 1-1-1. SEMO fell to Missouri, 4-0, in its opener, before defeating Grambling State, 4-1, on Aug. 20.
- In its last match, Southeast Missouri State played Evansville to a scoreless draw, on Thursday, Aug. 24. The Redhawks out-shot Evansville, 11-6, and 5-1 in terms of shots-on-goal.Â
- Goalkeeper Sophia Elfrink posted the clean sheet in-goal, making one save in the effort.
- SEMO has had four different goalscorers in 2023, with those four being Megan Heisserer, Emily Baker, Cayla Koerner, and Kiana Khedoo.Â
- Elfrink has started two matches in-goal for the Redhawks so far this season. In those two appearances, Elfrink has made eight saves and allowed four goals.
- Madison Geisler has also made an appearance in-goal for SEMO. In her lone match, Geisler made one save and allowed one goal in 24 minutes against Grambling State.
- The Redhawks are led by head coach Heather Nelson, who is in her 25th season at the helm of the program.
- This will be the third meeting all-time between the two programs. The overall series is tied, 1-1, but SIU won the most recent match, 1-0, in Cape Girardeau on Sept. 11, 2022.Â
- Emma Spotak scored the game-winning goal against the Redhawks last season.Â
