CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University women's soccer team (1-5-3) will continue its Iowa road trip on Sunday at 12 p.m. when it visits Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.

- Heading into their third conference match of the season, the Salukis hold a record of 1-5-3 overall and 0-2 in Missouri Valley Conference play.
- SIU fell to Drake, 2-1, in its last match on Thursday in Des Moines. McKensey Bunch scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season in the loss on a rocket from around 45 yards out. Chantelle Symes made three saves in-goal.
- The Salukis are yet to allow more than two goals in a game so far this season, and have had a match decided by one goal or less in seven of the nine games the team has played.Â
- Seven goals have been scored by SIU this season, with Bunch's four leading the way. Kaitlin DuCharme is second with two, followed by Dana Cruz who has one.
- Bunch has now scored three goals in her last five appearances for the Salukis. On her career, the senior has a total of five goals.Â
- DuCharme has six goals and five assists in her Saluki career. The graduate student is third all-time in goals at SIU, trailing only Liz Brechtel (10) and Emma Spotak (nine). DuCharme's five assists are the most in program history.
- After Bunch's team-high 11 shots, Sam Dodd and Emma Spotak are tied for second on the team with nine shots each so far this year.Â
- Symes has been Southern's primary goalkeeper through the opening nine matches, starting seven games and making 29 saves in those starts.Â
- Defender Kylie McDermott's 809 minutes are the most on the team, followed by fellow defender Veronica Gonzalez's 795.Â
- Graeme Orr is in his first season as head coach of the women's soccer program. Assistant coaches Carley Kandel and Ash Phillips are also in their first year with the Salukis, while Jake Edwards returns for his second season as a graduate assistant on the coaching staff.
- Orr comes to SIU after spending the previous 12 seasons as the head coach at Division II West Alabama. He was announced as the Salukis' head coach on May 30, 2023.Â
- The Eaglesham, Scotland native, was the first head coach in West Alabama women's soccer history, starting the program in 2011. During his 12 years with the program, Orr posted an overall record of 115-78-19 and conference record of 79-44-9.
- UWA recorded 10-consecutive and had 11-straight postseason appearances under Orr.Â
- Orr was previously an assistant coach at North Alabama before arriving at West Alabama.Â
- The Panthers are off to a hot start in 2023, posting a record of 8-1-1 overall and 1-1 in MVC play.Â
- After a 2-1 loss at Drake last Sunday, UNI bounced back in its last match, earning a 1-0 victory over UIC on Thursday. Maddie Eastus scored the game-winning goal in the 60th minute off of a Olivia Knoepfle assist.
- Goalkeeper Caitlin Richards posted the clean sheet in-goal while also making five saves. This was the third time Richards has earned a shutout so far this campaign.
- UNI has scored 27 goals as a team while allowing eight on the defensive end.Â
- Macy Smith's six goals lead the way for Northern Iowa, followed by Eastus' five.Â
- Knoepfle is the team's leader in assists, posting four through the opening month of the season.
- Richards has made 10 starts in-goal for the Panthers, making 31 saves while allowing eight goals.Â
- Bruce Erickson is UNI's head coach, and is in his seventh season in the role.
- Southern Illinois is 0-2-1 all-time against Northern Iowa.
- In their last meeting, the Salukis and Panthers drew, 1-1, on Oct. 9, 2022, in Carbondale. Spotak scored the game-tying goal for SIU in the 64th minute.Â
- This will be the second time the two sides have faced off in Cedar Falls, with the last match in Iowa coming on Oct. 23, 2021, in a 3-1 UNI victory.
