
Recap | Women's Team Dominates Missouri State, Men fall short

CARBONDALE, Ill. – The Southern Illinois swimming and diving team wrapped up the Dual in the Dale with a split result. The women's closed with a final score of 246-107, while the men's team saw a late comeback fall short, finishing 200-151.
The women's team closed out day two with six first-place finishes. The meet began with the 200-yard medley relay, where Celia Pulido, Olivia Herron, Bea Padron, and Susana Hernandez secured first place with a time of 1:41.99. The Salukis also claimed victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay, finishing in 3:27.06.
In individual events, the women's team started strong with a third-place finish by Ale Hoyos Horvath in the 1,000-yard freestyle. The team swept the podium in the 100-yard backstroke, led by Pulido, followed by Liseka Gallegos Gutierrez and Brooklyn Anderson. In the 200-yard breaststroke, Olivia Herron took first place, with Madalyn Booker finishing second.
Jasmine Rau earned second place in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.43. Susana Hernandez took first in the 200-yard freestyle, clocking in at 1:52.25. The Salukis achieved another podium sweep in the 400-yard individual medley, with Brooklyn Anderson finishing first at 4:25.60, followed by Herron (4:28.58) and Fernanda Sanchez (4:30.25).
The men's team posted three first-place finishes. In the 200-yard medley relay, Alex Cimera, Tiago Faleiros, Alex Santiago, and Donut Csuvarszki secured victory with a time of 1:29.90. The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Nico Lanuza, Will Huggins, Santiago, and Cimera also took first with a finishing time of 3:01.25.
Individually, Santiago led the men's team, winning the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.44. Joshua Aceves took second place in the 1,000-yard freestyle. In the 100-yard backstroke, newcomer Will Huggins finished second with a time of 50.46, just 13 milliseconds behind the winner.
Henrique Pacheco earned second place in both the 200-yard breaststroke and the 400-yard individual medley. In the 100-yard butterfly, Lanuza and Benedek Andor finished second and third, respectively.
On the diving side the Salukis had top finishes and two Zone qualifications this weekend. Oliver Mebs had a top finish and a NCAA Zone qualifying score with 340.58 points in the three-meter dive. Lee Haywood also had a top finish and NCAA Zone qualifying score in the one-meter dive. Haywood had a total of 319.80 points. On the women's side, Farida Moussa had the top finish in the one-meter with 250.20 points. In the three-meter Corrin Williams secured the top spot with 224.03 points.
The Salukis will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 26, when they host UIC at 11 a.m.
