CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Don DeNoon Invitational wrapped up Saturday and the Southern Illinois track and field team put together a list of great performances.
The Salukis welcomed Harding, Mineral Area College, Saint Louis, Southern Arkansas, and many unattached competitors.
Several athletes sat out the meet in preparation for the Missouri Valley Conference Championships, but some used the meet as an opportunity to keep a rhythm and improve.
"Some people needed rest and some people needed the additional race to feel confident heading into MVC," Director of Track and Field Richard Jones said.
Freshman Dallas Hodge continued to lock down the home track and won the weight throw with a distance of 18.00 meters. The victory marked his second of the indoor season.
Fellow freshman Marius Coleman brought home the first win of his collegiate career in the men's 400-meter dash, posting a time of 51.34.
Xavier Preston showed that he is ready for The Valley championships by winning the men's 60-meter dash with a lightning-fast time of 6.77.Â
Sophomore Trinity Cleaver won the first event of her collegiate career. Cleaver won the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.10.
Personal and season bests were a theme Saturday, here's a list of Salukis who accomplished one or both feats:
"Now it's time to sharpen the knives and get into the championship mindset this week," Jones said.Â
