Preview | Salukis Head to Springfield to Open Valley Schedule

Springfield, Mo. - Southern Illinois begins Valley action this week as the Salukis head to Springfield to take on the Missouri State Bears for a midweek series. SIU and Missouri State will play two games with the first beginning at 5 PM on Tuesday, March 12 followed by a 4 PM first pitch on Wednesday. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.

The Dawgs have won eight consecutive games as they head into conference play after another 4-0 weekend at the Coach B Classic. Outscoring its opponents 55-10 over that stretch, SIU has totaled a 0.87 ERA as a team to go along with a .319 batting average.Â

Missouri State comes into its Valley schedule with a 3-13 record against a competitive non-conference schedule. Making their final preseason trip to Knoxville this past weekend, the Bears fell to No. 8 Tennessee as well as Ohio State and South Dakota in a doubleheader.Â

A season ago, the Salukis won the series over the Bears 2-1 after beginning conference play with a pair of home victories at Charlotte West Stadium. SIU leads the all-time series 62-54.

Jackie Lis totaled five home runs last season against Missouri State in three games. Lis hit a pair of home runs in the Valley opener before tying her own single-game record with three solo shots against the Bears in the regular season finale.Â
