Recap | Salukis pepper top spots at Joey Haines Invitational

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southern Illinois track and field tallied six top-three finishes at the Joey Haines Invitational Saturday in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
The Salukis also had two competitors travel to other meets around the country, one at Texas State and one at Stanford.
Jadon Robertson competed in the men's decathlon at the Bobcat Invitational Thursday where he did not qualify after a DNS in the 1500-meter run portion of the event. Robertson finished in the top five four times including a first-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles.
On Friday, Rachel Anderson went out to the Stanford Invitational and finished sixth in section one of the women's 3000-meter steeplechase.
Saturday's meet at Southeast Missouri State saw a nice balance from the Saluki track and field team. The Salukis tallied 3 top 3 finishes each from their running and field events.
On the track, Shane Ashton (48.31) brought home a first-place finish in the 400-meter dash, his second of the season.
Josh Delgado put together a good performance for the second straight week, finishing second in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:54.79.
Nikyan Hodge secured second place after his personal-record run of 54.67 in the 400-meter hurdles.
Last week's MVC Field Athlete of the Week Darrione Williams followed the honor up with a season-best long jump of 7.27 meters. The mark was good for first place; the first victory of his career.
Christine Nosike and Katee Swope each finished third in their respective throws events. Nosike hit a personal record in the discus throw (49.15), and Swope threw a personal record 13.84 meters in the shot put.

"I believe we have some good momentum going into the 2nd half of the outdoor season as we prepare for our home meet next week," Associate Head Coach Stephani Perkins said.
