Carbondale, Ill. - Southern Illinois fell to UNI by a final score of 2-1 once again on Saturday as it drops its first Valley series of the season. The Salukis and Panthers both tallied three hits on the day, but a two-run home run from UNI made the difference.

Madi Eberle made the start and went all seven innings for Southern. Despite taking the loss, Eberle held UNI in check for all but the second inning giving up a pair of hits including a two run home run to plate UNI's only two runs of the day.

The Salukis attempted to fight their way back but were unable to get over the hump against 2023 MVC Pitcher of the Year, Samantha Heyer, as they hit into a pair of double plays and left three on.

Jackie Lis had two of SIU's three hits as she went 2-for-3 on the day. Lis has got on base with at least one hit in all 10 MVC games so far this season.

Elizabeth Warwick drove in the lone run of the day on a sacrifice fly, scoring Emma Austin. Austin laid down a bunt and beat it out to lead off the sixth before scoring.

The Salukis will look to finish the series strong on Sunday with a 12 PM first pitch set with UNI.
