Recap | Salukis Close Home Slate with 14-8 Win Over Bellarmine Tuesday

Southern scored seven runs in the first four innings. Ahead 2-0 after the first, Jake Allgeyer hit his fifth home run of the season to extend the SIU lead to 3-0 in the third. Southern added four runs on three hits and what walks to push the lead to 7-1.
Mathieu Vallee hit a three-run home run in the fifth before Anthony Kodama hit a pinch-hit solo home run to make it back-to-back homers for the Salukis to extend the lead to 12-1.
In typical midweek fashion, 13 pitchers combined saw action on the mound. Bellarmine was able to get their bats going in the later stage of the game, scoring seven runs in the final four innings but the Salukis were able to close out the game to improve to 30-23 on the season.
Ben Riffe earned the win in the staff start after retiring the side in the first, improving to 3-3. Alec Nigut went 4.1 innings for the Salukis, striking out four and giving up four runs. Tanner Gerdes did not allow a run on 1.2 innings combined. Oliver Parizek made his season debut out of the bullpen, striking out two in an inning of work.
Bellarmine's Cooper Hellman (1-7) took the loss after giving up three earned runs in three innings.
SIU outhit the Knights 12-8 and was led by Vallee and Jordan Bach with two hits each. Vallee drove in three runs while Nathan Bandy had two RBI.
Jake Agarwal was the lone Knight to record multiple hits with a 2-for-4 day at the plate.
UP NEXT
The Salukis hit the road for a weekend series at Missouri State to end the regular season. The series begins in Springfield on Thursday at 11 a.m. All three games will air on ESPN Plus.
