CARBONDALE, Ill. – Southern Illinois men's basketball head coach Scott Nagy announced the addition of forward Antwaun Massey on Tuesday. Massey spent the last two seasons at New Mexico Junior College.
Massey joins forwards Jaheem Webber, Rolyns Aligbe, and Jorge Moreno as well as guards Drew Steffe, Damien Mayo Jr., Davion Sykes, Tyler Bey, Ali Dibba and Elijah Elliott in the recruiting cycle.
"Antwaun is a forward that will provide experience and tremendous athleticism to an already long and athletic team," Nagy said. "He gives us the ability to rebound and play faster because of his speed and motor."
The 6-foot-8 forward comes to SIU as the No. 58 ranked JUCO player in the nation. Massey averaged 11.1 points and 6.5 rebounds per game last season with the Thunderbirds who finished 23-9 overall and advanced to the Region V semifinal game, falling in double overtime to Weatherford College.
Massey started 32 games overall and scored in double-digits in 18 games, including all four postseason games for NMJC. He posted a season-high 30 points in a win over Ranger College, shooting 10-for-17 from the field. He also posted 95 offensive rebounds and recorded 27 blocks over the season, putting up six multi-block games.
As a sophomore, Massey was named an NJCAA Rising Star and was a JA48 (JUCO Showcase) Participant.
