SIU opens Indoor Season at Saluki Fast Start

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Southern Illinois University will officially open its indoor track and field season this weekend as the Salukis host the annual Saluki Fast Start inside the SIU Recreation Center. The two-day meet begins Friday, Dec. 6, and continues through Saturday, Dec. 7.
SIU will welcome a mix of regional opponents, including Murray State, Lindenwood, Maryville, Saint Louis University, SIUE, William Woods, and Principia. The Fast Start meet typically gives coaches their first real look at how athletes are shaping up after fall training, and this year is no different.
Friday's schedule opens at 2 p.m. with the pentathlon. Saturday's competition will start at 9:30 a.m. with the women's weight throw.
The Fast Start meet provides the first chance to see several newcomers and returning standouts in action before SIU breaks for winter and heads into a busy January through March indoor schedule.
