SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Southern Illinois Men's Golf finished the Desert Mountain Collegiate on Sunday, tying for 13th out of 17 teams. The Salukis finished with a score of 891 (+27), with Mississippi State winning the tournament at 853 (-11).
While the tournament featured several high-major opponents, Head Coach Justin Fetcho's reaction echoes the high expectations for the program despite a challenging course.
"This golf course is penal on its own when you miss and we just kept compounding errors to make it worse," he said. "Our attitude and mentality has to change if we want to see improvements."
Anthony De Schutter continued his strong play, tying for 13th and shooting one under par at 215. Fetcho is impressed by the mental attributes he displays.
"He's making strides in his discipline and attitude and it's really starting to shine through more in the events."
Oliver Ulrich tied for 20th (217, +1), and Fetcho hopes this performance will give him some momentum down the stretch of the season.
"We hope this is the jumpstart he needs to continue to keep the pedal down this spring."
