Justin Fetcho is entering his tenth year as the Head Coach and fourth year as the Director of Golf at SIU.Â
The 2024-25 season was yet another successful one for the Salukis under Fetcho’s guidance, with several strong individual performances from a rebuilt roster that returned only one athlete that played more than 30 rounds the previous season.Â
Even with turnover, Saluki Golf has seen unmatched consistency with Fetcho at the helm. In his nine seasons as head coach, the Salukis have finished in the top two in the Missouri Valley Conference five times and captured conference titles in 2016, 2019 and 2024. SIU has finished outside the top five in the MVC only once during Fetcho’s tenure and have also claimed two top-ten finishes at the NCAA Regional level.
Out of SIU’s four Men’s Golf MVC Championships, Fetcho has been at the head of three titles. The fourth, won while Fetcho was helping coach Florida State to a National Championship appearance in 2022, was won with several players brought in by Fetcho. Standout players during Fetcho’s first stint include 2018 MVC Golfer of the Year Peyton Wilhoit as well as Matthis Besard, both of whom are active professionally and can stake a claim to being among the best golfers to ever hit the links at SIU.Â
Upon his return to SIU, Fetcho has shown to be a successful recruiter out of the transfer portal, landing the 2024 MVC Champion Edouard Cereto as well as fellow All-MVC performers Dain Richie and Anthony De Schutter. Cereto and De Schutter led the Salukis in stroke average and each won MVC Newcomer of the Year in 2024 and 2025, respectively.Â
Fetcho’s impact on Saluki Golf is reflected in the history books. Out of the top 10 players in career stroke average, seven were coached by Fetcho. That theme continues in season stroke average, where an impressive nine of the top 10 years came under Fetcho’s tutelage.Â
Student athletes have also thrived in the classroom during Fetcho’s tenure. 10 different players were named to the MVC First Team Scholar Athletes, with three making multiple appearances. An additional three athletes were also members of MVC Academic Honor teams.Â
