CARBONDALE, Ill. – After a weekend on the road, Southern Illinois' softball team (26-17, 17-3) returns to Carbondale for a midweek matchup against non-conference foe, UT Martin (14-26, 6-14). This is SIU's final non-conference game of the 2025 regular season.

Last Time Out
Softball spent the weekend in Cedar Falls, Iowa, for a three-game series versus Northern Iowa. Facing off for the first time since SIU defeated Northern Iowa in last year's Missouri Valley Conference Championship, the Panthers handed the Salukis their first series loss within MVC play.
Game one on Friday went to Northern Iowa, 6-5. Emily Williams hit a pair of homers and Anna Carder added one too; Addi Baker had Southern's other RBI.
Saturday featured a doubleheader and the Salukis won the first game, 12-6, in eight innings. Williams hit another home run, and Baker hit one herself. RBIs also came from Jackie Lis, Sage Grann, and Amanda Knutson.
Northern Iowa then clinched the series with an 8-6 win in the second game on Saturday. Baker hit a grand slam for her second home run of the day and Knutson drove in SIU's other run.
Weekly Honor
After the Northern Iowa series, Williams was named the MVC Newcomer of the Week for the second straight week and fourth time this season. In the UNI series, Williams went 4-8 with three home runs, seven RBIs, four runs, and five walks. The Morehead State transfer currently leads the MVC in home runs with 15 and RBIs with 46.
The Series and the Matchup
Southern and UT Martin have matched up 23 times in the past, with SIU leading the series, 16-7. The two met last season on March 26 at UT Martin where UT Martin won, 5-2. The last game in Carbondale was also SIU's last victory in the series, a 7-6, eight inning, win on March 4, 2023.
The Skyhawks come into this midweek game with an overall record of 14-26 while they are 6-14 within Ohio Valley Conference play. UT Martin is currently in a seven-game losing streak and haven't won a game since a 9-5 victory over Morehead State on April 7.
