News | Frizzi, Holder and Petrey Earn MVC Scholar-Athlete Honors

ST. LOUIS – Three Southern Illinois baseball student-athletes were named to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Team, the MVC office announced Wednesday. Jaxon Holder and Sam Frizzi earned First Team honors while Dylan Petrey was named to the Second Team.
Holder started in 49 games for the Salukis this season and finished third on the team with a .329 average (55-167) to go along with 10 doubles, six home runs, and a pair of triples (.521 SLG%). The Aubrey, Texas native led the Salukis with 13 stolen bases in 14 attempts and finished the year with 31 walks for a .436 on-base percentage. He holds a 3.93 GPA in criminology and criminal justice.
Frizzi was dominant out of the bullpen with a team-high 25 appearances. He led the Missouri Valley Conference with eight saves and owned a 3.28 ERA in 35.2 innings pitched. The right-hander struck out 34 and held opponents to a .254 batting average. Frizzi holds a 3.87 GPA in university studies.
Petrey made 22 bullpen appearances for the Salukis this season and finished with a 4-3 record and a 4.22 ERA. The Pingree Grove, Illinois product had 47 strikeouts over 49 innings of work and allowed just 12 extra-base hits. He is an industrial management & applied engineering major with a 3.78 GPA.
