CARBONDALE, Ill. - Women's basketball head coach Kelly Bond-White has announced the signing of Carmen Morales Romero, a transfer from Benedictine College.
Romero is a 6-foot-3 center originally from Granada, Spain, who will be wearing No. 15 for the Salukis. Romero is not a stranger to the States, as she spent last season at Benedictine in Atchison, Kan.
"We're excited to have Carmen on campus for the upcoming season," Bond-White said. "She adds valuable depth to our front court, bringing strength in the lane, a steady defensive presence, and strong rebounding that can spark our offense. Her ability to score inside, hit the high-post jumper, and occasionally knock down the three will keep defenses honest. Fans will appreciate her bubbly personality, work ethic, and team-first mentality."
Carmen was drawn to the program's vision and the coaching staff's urgency to turn things around. She also appreciated how her future teammates reached out before and after her commitment.
"Everyone in the process made it feel like home," Romero said.
Romero will be studying architectural studies at Southern Illinois.
