CARBONDALE, Ill. – Southern Illinois women's soccer (2-0-0, 0-0-0) was back in action Thursday evening with a home match versus the SEMO Redhawks (0-3-0, 0-0-0). For their second consecutive game, the Salukis kept their opponent off the scoreboard on their way to a 2-0 win.
"Delighted with the win," said head coach Graeme Orr. "I thought we showed another side of our game tonight where we showed a lot of great, hard desire and good application."

How It Happened
First Half
Southern put the pressure on almost immediately, generating two shots-on-goal within the first six minutes of action but were unable to find the back of the net. The Redhawks responded with a shot-on-goal of their own 12:50 into the match, but Miller stood tall to prevent the score.
After another three Saluki shots were saved, SIU finally broke through when Latenser finished a deflected ball at the 35:06 mark to give her squad a 1-0 lead. Neither team landed anything on net for the remaining 10 minutes of the first half and entered the halftime break with a 1-0 score in favor of Southern.
Second Half
Schlicklin opened the second half with a shot-on-goal just a few minutes into the second half and Nao Katamoto added one 11 minutes later, but neither beat the SEMO goalie. Following another two saves by the Redhawk keeper, Southern added an insurance marker with less than nine minutes to play when Nadda scored her first goal as a Saluki.
Miller had to make one more save at 82:53 as that was the last shot to reach goal from either squad, sealing the Salukis a 2-0 win over SEMO and giving SIU their best start to a season in program history.
