PADUCAH, Ky. - Southern Illinois Women's Golf wrapped its opening tournament Tuesday with a 12th-place finish at The Velvet Classic in Paducah.
After a slow start, first-year Head Coach Samantha Sambursky saw some promising signs as the team improved with each round.
"This tournament, we drove the ball off the tee relatively well and will need to continue to work on our short game," Sambursky said. "We had some better rounds from a few players, and as a team scored lower each round."
Kayla Sayyalinh was the team's leader, finishing 24th with a low round of 75 on Tuesday. Sambursky is excited to see how her junior golfer develops her game throughout the season.
"She gave herself a lot of chances for birdie and made several, especially in her first and last rounds," Sambursky said. "I look forward to seeing what her future holds this year."
