IOWA CITY, Iowa - Southern Illinois Women's Golf finished play at the Diane Thomason Invite Tuesday, Sept. 30, in Iowa City.
The tournament presented many challenges for new Head Coach Samantha Sambursky's players. Round one set them behind the field, an experience she believes the team needed.
"We struggled getting settled our first round," Sambursky said. "The team is gaining experience with each tournament, with some players that are now regularly traveling."
Sambursky identified play close to the green as an area that needs improvement.
"We will spend the next week before Arkansas working 100 yards and in," she said. "We lost a lot of shots with our wedges and on the green."
Here is how the Saluki golfers fared:
The Salukis vastly improved in rounds two and three, something Sambursky recognized as a sign of promise.
"We improved each round and hit the ball better today than I have seen this season," she noted. "We have work to do, but we know what we need to do to improve."
