Potter, Lucas Earn MVC Weekly Honors; Potter Named D1Softball Mid-Major POTW

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Junior Sydney Potter and freshman Hailey Lucas of the Southern Illinois University softball team (5-0) have earned weekly honors from the Missouri Valley Conference, as announced by the league on Tuesday.
Potter was named the MVC Player and Newcomer of the Week, while Lucas earned MVC Freshman of the Week. Along with the conference recognition, Potter was also named D1Softball's Mid-Major Player of the Week.
The junior catcher from Runnells, Iowa, had a monster start to her career as a Saluki at the Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) Kickoff Classic. Potter hit five home runs with 11 RBI, a batting average of .471, and an OPS of 1.938. The transfer from Creighton also registered a 1.412 slugging percentage.Â
Potter hit a home run in all five games of the tournament.
Lucas earned Freshman of the Week honors after going 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 9.2 innings pitched across two appearances. The freshman from Palatine, Ill., also recorded a save on Feb. 8 vs. Ball State.
In her collegiate debut, Lucas tossed a complete-game shutout against FGCU on Feb. 6, allowing just two hits and no walks with five strikeouts across seven scoreless innings.
Potter, Lucas, and the Salukis are 5-0 heading into the Puerto Vallarta Challenge, which begins on Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 11 a.m. CST vs. Eastern Kentucky.
