Jared Nessland and his staff oversees the training of more than 350 student-athletes in SIU's state-of-the-art Troutt-Wittmann Academic and Training Center. Nessland directly supervises the football and men's basketball programs.

Prior to joining Southern, Nessland was the strength coach at Montana (2006-07) and North Dakota (2002-06). He also served as an assistant at Nebraska (2002) and North Dakota (2001-02). He began his career as a student intern at Montana State 1998. A native of Havre, Montana, Nessland competed on the Montana State track and field team. He is certified through the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association. He and his wife, Janice, reside in Carbondale.
