Saluki Women's Tennis to Compete at Louisville Invitational

Carbondale, Ill. - Southern Illinois University's women's tennis team will return to action this weekend when the Salukis travel to Louisville, Ky., to compete in the Louisville Invitational Friday-Sunday, Oct. 19-21.
SIU is one of 13 teams participating in the 18th annual ITCA sanctioned event which will consist of three singles flights and two doubles flights. Also competing in the tournament is host Louisville, Wisconsin, Miami of Ohio, Xavier, Charlotte, Eastern Michigan, Bowling Green, Tennessee-Chattanooga, Indiana State, Toledo and Tennessee-Martin.
Sophomore Alejandra Blanco (0-3) and senior Erika Ochoa (6-1), each received first-round byes and will await their respective second-round opponents. Blanco will face the winner of Devon Bissinger (Bowling Green) and Kadia Richards (Miami, Ohio) Friday at 2:30 p.m., while Ochoa will set to tangle with the winner of Shana McElroy (Wisconsin) and Carolina Salinas (Indiana State) at 3:30 p.m. Also taking part in the singles pairings are Sandy Swanepoel (4-3) and Kari Stark (3-3) who round out the Saluki lineup in Flight B.
