Carbondale, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University Carbondale men's and women's swimming and diving teams will host Drury (Mo.) University in a dual meet on Friday, October 26. The meet begins at 2 p.m. at the Rec Center Pool.
Drury, a Division II powerhouse, finished second at the NCAA Division II meet in the men's and women's competition last season.
"I'm always excited to swim against Drury. They have one of the best Division II programs in the country, they have a lot of Division I swimmers and they can beat some Division I schools," said Rick Walker, SIU men's swimming and diving head coach.
"We'll have to swim well. They have good distance swimmers and sound backstrokers. I want to see quicker starts, better returns off the walls and aggressive finishes. I want the whole team to lay it all out on the line like a few guys did last week (Big 12 Relays).
The Saluki women will be put to the test. SIU lost to Drury by one point last year and by two points two years ago.
"It's going to be a good meet. They've beaten us the last couple years so we'll have to compete well to get a win," said Jeff Goelz, SIU women's swimming and diving head coach.
"Our whole team hasn't competed since the Kansas meet and they're excited to get together and swim. Drury is strong in the sprints and the strokes and we are strong in the distance and the strokes so it should be very interesting."
The Saluki men finished fourth last week at the Big 12 Relays while the Saluki women's last competition was their win at the MVC Shootout on October 13.
