Carbondale, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University Carbondale men's and women's swimming and diving teams will host the University of Evansville in a dual MVC meet on Saturday, November 3 at 2 p.m. at the Rec Center Pool.
The Evansville meet will be the first dual meet against an MVC opponent this season for the men and women.
"Evansville is an up and coming team with good athletes. They are strong in the backstroke, sprint freestyle, butterfly and medley relay. They're very good at the top so we'll have to compete," said Rick Walker, SIU men's swimming and diving head coach.
"We'll be seeing them again and it's a good test early in the season. We'll be checking out some events for some of our kids but we still want to win the meet."
The Saluki women will face an Evansville team that finished second at the 2001 MVC Meet.
"It's a conference meet and they finished second to us last year and they're trying to knock us off as champs. We'll be moving some people around to some different events and the kids are excited about that," said Jeff Goelz, SIU women's swimming and diving head coach.
"I want the kids to try some new events and give me a chance to learn something about our other events. A win would be great but it's not our primary focus. We're trying to get ready for the 2002 MVC Meet and I'm looking for great efforts and fast times."
The Saluki men are 1-0 in dual meets after their 134-91 win over Drury (Mo.) University last weekend. The SIU women take a 1-1 record into the weekend after beating Drury for the first time in three years 121-107 last weekend in addition to a 116.5-88.5 season opening loss against Kansas.
