CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Saluki women's swimming and diving team defeated conference rival University of Evansville 122-121 in a conference dual meet Saturday Nov 3.
Senior Brooke Radostits was the top finisher in both the 50 freestyle (24.78) and the 200 backstroke (2:04.21)and the only saluki to win multiple events. However, four different salukis placed first in their respective events. Freshman Ashley MacCurdy won the 1,000 freestyle (10:29.67) and place third in the 500 freestyle. MVC Swimmer of the Week Leane Pienaar won the 500 freestyle (5:04.17) and placed third in both the 200 individual medley and 200 butterfly. Sophomore Brigitta Olson won the 200 butterfly (2:05.47). Senior diver Breanne Hay won the 3-meter dive with a score of 240.975 and placed fourth in the 1-meter dive.
Other top finishers for the salukis include seniors Mary Trailov's second place finish in the 200 breaststroke and Dana Morrell's second place in the 500 freestyle. Junior Amber Mullins placed second in the 1,000 freestyle. Sophomore Karina Belache placed second in the 200 freestyle. Fellow sophomore Kyria Kershner placed third in the 1,000 freestyle. Senior Courtney Corder (50 freestyle) and freshman Sarah Lenz (200 backstroke) round out the third place finishers.
The relay teams had strong showings as the team of Radostits, Trailov, Olson and senior Jenna Meckler placed second in the 400 medley relay with the 400 freestyle relay team also placing second with the team of Belache, Jenny Coray, Caty Kinnaman and Rachel Green.
The team will travel to Champaign, Ill. to compete in the Illinois Invite on Friday November 9.
