Bloomington, Ind. -
Junior Erika Ochoa and freshman Tana Trapani each posted 2-0 singles records to lead the Southern Illinois University Carbondale women's tennis team Friday in the opening day of the Indiana Invitational.
Both players combined for the four wins in the number two singles slot. Ochoa defeated Western Michigan's Nikki Thompson-Douglas 7-5, 6-4 and Miami of Ohio's Ilsa Meyer 6-2, 5-7, 11-9. Trapani then ousted Indiana's M. Grimm 7-6, 6-3 and Miami of Ohio's A. Gabel 6-3, 6-0.
In doubles, Ochoa combined with Ana Serrot at the No. 1 spot to register a 1-0 mark.
"Overall I was very pleased," said SIU Head Coach Judy Auld. "Erika and Tana are having a good tournament and everyone else has done reasonably well. We just need to get some playing time in."
The Salukis will resume play in the Indiana Invitational Saturday with the tournament then coming to a close Sunday.
