Women's Tennis Splits Against Murray State And Louisville

Southern Illinois University Carbondale's women's tennis team split a pair of matches in its season-opening weekend losing to Murray State, 7-2 and winning over Louisville 5-4.
In the Salukis' opener against Murray State on Friday, Alejandra Blanco defeated Maria Alotite in No. 3 singles (4-6, 6-4, 4-10) and Erika Ochoa defeated Erica Heshelman (6-3, 6-7, 8-6, 4-10) in the No. 1 singles slot to post SIU's only two wins.
A day later, SIU then turned around to win three of six singles matches and two of three doubles bouts to post the 5-4 win. Alejandra Blanco defeated Kelly Whitler (7-6(5), 6-3) in No. 3 singles, Rachel Moroles prevailed over Kelly Kehner in the No. 4 slot (6-3, 6-4), and Sarah Krismanits won in No. 5. Blanco/Serrot (No. 2) and Krismanits/Keri Crandall (No. 3) then rounded out the SIU's pair of wins in doubles.
The Salukis, now 1-1 on the season, will return to action on Friday, March 2 when the Dawgs travel to DeKalb, Ill., to face the Huskie of Northern Illinois at 1 p.m.
