Trapani Continues to Pace SIU as Salukis Split Saturday

Murphysboro's Tana Trapani continued her domination in the Missouri Valley Conference with a pair of wins Saturday to up her record to 22-4 at No. 4 singles for the Southern Illinois University Carbondale women's tennis team.
The Salukis lost to Illinois State 6-1 and beat Bradley 6-0 with the freshman being the only SIU player to win in singles and then teamed with fellow freshman Alejandra Blanco to be the only Saluki team to win in singles. Trapani then won her sixth match in a row during the blanking of Bradley in the nightcap.
Trapani beat Elizabeth Bingier of Illinois State, 6-4, 6-1, and Jessie Paterson of Bradley, 6-0, 6-0, in singles to improve her conference record to 6-0 during the spring and 8-1 overall. The doubles victory over the Redbird team of Zana Friganovic and Alana Hoffman, 8-4, was the first conference doubles lost for Illinois State and improved the freshman pair's record to 11-1 overall and a perfect 4-0 in conference play.
The Salukis upped their record to 8-7 overall and 4-2 in the MVC and are back in action on the road next weekend taking on Northern Iowa and Drake Saturday and Creighton Sunday.
