SIU Women's Basketball Announces 2001-02 Schedule

Carbondale, Ill. - Southern Illinois University's women's basketball team will square off against opponents from three different leagues in addition to its own as the Salukis announce their 2001-02 schedule.
Big XII standout Nebraska highlights this year's non-conference run which opens Friday, Nov. 16 when the Dawgs tangle with the Huskers in Lincoln, Neb. Conference USA foe Saint Louis and several Ohio Valley Conference opponents (Tennessee-Martin, Tennessee Tech, Eastern Illinois, Tennessee State and Southeast Missouri) then follow before the Salukis round out their non-league jaunt at the Navy Tournament in Annapolis, Md.
"Our non-conference schedule will start off with a tough opening game against Nebraska, but it will be a good test to see where we are at that time," said head coach Lori Opp. "Following our season opener, we will play some good competition in the OVC that I feel we match up well with. And the Navy Tournament should be very competitive and I'm hoping it will help our kids build some confidence heading into the conference season."
SIU will play a pair of exhibition games against Basketball Travelers (Nov. 7, SIU Arena, 7:05 p.m.) and Gold Star (Nov. 11, SIU Arena, 2:05 p.m.) prior to the start of this year's season.
