Women's Swimming & Diving Team Falls To Western Kentucky

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The Saluki women's swimming and diving team could only manage two first place finishes in a non-conference dual meet against # 2 ranked Western Kentucky at the Preston Center. They were eventually outscored 135-108. The loss dropped the women's team to 2-3 in dual meets for the season.
Junior Amber Mullins and Sophomore Brigitta Olson were the lone top finishers, Mullins in the 1,000 freestyle (10:37.45) and Olson in the 200 butterfly (2:08.32). Mullins added a second place finish in the 500 freestyle (5:15.61) to go with her victory. Olson added second place finishes as a member of both the 400 freestyle (3:42.43) and 400 medley relay (3:56.45) teams.
Senior Brooke Radostits had three second place finishes, including a season's best time of 2:03.64 in the 200 backstroke. Senior Courtney Corder placed second in both the 200 individual medley (2:12.83) and the 100 freestyle (54.06). Senior Jenna Meckler, competing in her first meet since an early season injury, showed no signs of rust as she helped the 400 medley relay team place second with teammates Radostits, Olson and Amy Legner and added two third place finishes in the 200 freestyle (1:59.13) and 100 freestyle (54.57).
Other top performers included Karina Belache placing second in the 200 freestyle (1:58.54) and third in the 200 butterfly (2:09.95). Ashley MacCurdy placing second in the 1,000 freestyle (10:42.09) and third in the 500 freestyle (5:17.45).
Senior Breanne Hay was the top diver for the Salukis finishing second in the 3-meter dive (237.38) and third in the 1-meter dive (212.85).
The Salukis will travel to Springfield, Mo. to take on conference rival Southwest Missouri State and Northeast Louisiana on Saturday January 26, at 1:00 p.m.
Notes: The women's team has added two new members to its team, Cyprus native Andri Hatzidoni and Australian native Melinda Page. Each participated in their first collegiate swim meet at Western Kentucky, with Hatzidoni placing third as a member of the 400 medley relay team and fifth place finishes in both the 200 individual medley (2:14.84) and 200 butterfly (2:14.20). Page's top finishes were fifth place in both the 200 freestyle (2:01.84) and 100 freestyle (56.18).
