Men's Swimming & Diving Team Defeats Western Kentucky

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The Saluki men's swimming and diving team placed first in 10 of 13 events to coast to an easy victory against # 4 ranked Western Kentucky, 150.50 - 90.50 in a non-conference dual meet at the Preston Center. The victory improved the men's team to 3-1 in dual meets this season.
"This was a very good win after our training trip and a good prep for the MVC Championships," said Rick Walker, men's swimming and diving head coach.
Seniors Chrysanthos Papachrysanthou and Corne Prozesky led the way for the Salukis, with each winning 3 events each. Papachrysanthou matched a season best time in his first place finish in the 50 freestyle (21,12). Additionally he finished first in the 100 freestyle (46.89) and as a member of the 400 freestyle relay team (3:07.68) with teammates Jeremiah Cortez, Matt Glowacki and Edoardo Daelli. Prozesky placed first in the 200 individual medley (1:54.60), 200 breaststroke (2:05.96) and as a member of the 400 medley relay team (3:26.22) with newcomer Marcelo Possato, Adam Gangl and Glowacki.
Daelli and freshman Brent Menghini added first place finishes in the 200 freestyle (1:43.42) and 200 butterfly (1:53.42) respectively. Menghini also finished second to Daelli in the 200 freestyle (1:45.50). Freshman Ivan Sanchez finished second in the 1,000 freestyle with a personal best time of 9:35.89 and also added a third place finish in the 500 freestyle (4:41.94). Sophomore Derek Helvey placed second in the 500 freestyle (4:39.95) and a third place finish in the 1,000 freestyle (9:45.74). Possato, a Brazilian native competing in his first collegiate swim meet, finished second in the 200 backstroke (1:51.73). Gangl and Glowacki added third place in the 200 individual medley (1:55.98) and the 100 freestyle (47.14) respectively.
The men's diving team was led by senior Jake Sinclair with his first place finishes in both the 1 and 3-meter dives. Devin Aikins added a second place finish in the 3-meter dive (252.15) and third in the 1-meter (255.45).
"The team showed a lot of heart on the finishes today," commented Walker.
The Salukis will travel to Springfield, Mo. to take on conference rival and reigning MVC champion in and Northeast Louisiana on Saturday January 26 at 1:00 p.m.
