Carbondale, Ill. - Southern Illinois University women's swimming and diving head coach Jeff Goelz wrapped up his 2002 fall recruiting class with the addition of national champion junior college diver Nadine Shawah.
"She was one of the top junior college divers in the nation the last two years. Anytime you can do that you have talent. I was impressed with her when I saw her dive. She'll be a great addition to the divers on our squad next season," Goelz added.
Shawah, a 5'5 native of Valrico, Florida, will transfer to SIU from national junior college power Indian River Community College, where she was the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) national champion on the 3-Meter board and runner-up on the 1-Meter board at the 2002 junior college national meet. She was named 2002 NJCAA Diver of the Year among men and women at the national meet. Shawah was also a four-time NJCAA all-American at IRCC during her two seasons. She attended Durant High School in Plant City. Fla.
The SIU women's swimming and diving team has won the last five Missouri Valley Conference titles and seven of the eight MVC titles contested. Shawah joins swimmer Rachel Winius as Goelz's two recruits for the 2003-04 season.
