Women's Basketball Falls to Drake, 84-49

Des Moines, Iowa - Carla Bennett scored 23 points in 25 minutes to lead Drake (20-6, 14-3) to a 84-49 win over Southern Illinois (6-20, 2-15) earlier tonight at the Drake Knapp Center.
SIU never led in the game as Drake used a 14-0 run in the first half to build a 36-23 halftime lead.
Drake, who led by as many as 40 points (81-41) with 3:18 left in the second half, used a 17-0 run sparked by three Erin Richards' three-pointers to put the game away for good.
Bennett shot 8-of-10 from the field and 7-of-8 from the free throw line. In addition, she grabbed eight rebounds and gathered two blocks. Richards finished with a double-double 17 points, 11 rebounds, while Stephanie Schmitz added 10 points to round out the Bulldogs' scoring attack.
SIU was led by Tiffany Crutcher (16) and Holly Teague (10) who each posted double figures for the evening.
SIU will return to action on Saturday, March 2 when the Salukis play at first-place Creighton. Tip off is set for 3:05 p.m.
