Women's Tennis Blanked by Long Beach State

Long Beach, Calif. - Long Beach State ran its winning total to nine consecutive matches with a 7-0 shutout over Southern Illinois (0-7) earlier this afternoon at the 49er Tennis Courts.
SIU had only four players available due to injuries, and had to forfeit matches at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, and at No. 3 doubles.
In singles, Anastasia Dvornikova, ranked #89 nationally, defeated Erika Ochoa, 6-2, 6-1, at the No. 1 singles position, while her sister Alena, easily defeated Kari Stark, 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 3 spot. At No. 2 singles, sophomore Lindsey Marvel prevailed over Alejandra Blanco, 6-3, 6-4. Freshman Laura Thomas then won at No. 4 singles with a 6-4, 6-4 decision over Sarah Krismanits.
In doubles play, the Dvornikova sisters, who are ranked #39 in the nation, defeated Ochoa and Blanco, 8-3, while the team of Marvel/Thomas defeated Stark/Krismanits, 8-2.
