Carbondale, Ill. - The women's tennis team opens its fall season this weekend at the University of Missouri Invitational. The two day event will take place on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 14-15.
Only three players, Tana Trapani, Alejandra Blanco and Kari Stark, return for the Salukis this season. Last year's team was plagued with injuries which limited head coach Judy Auld's options. This year, however, with the addition of six freshmen and one junior college transfer, SIU appears to be a whole new team according to Auld.
"I'm anxious to see them play," said Auld. "We're asking a lot of the freshmen, but I think they're ready to make some exciting things happen. They'll do well because they have high expectations for themselves."
Also participating in this year's Missouri Invitational are Murray State, Illinois State and the host Missouri.
