Volleyball Team Earns Conference Win At Home Over Indiana State

Carbondale, Ill. - Southern Illinois University's volleyball team showed intense concentration Friday night as the Salukis earned a conference win at home over Indiana State in four games (27-30, 30-12, 30-21, 33-31).
Senior leadership contributed to the win. It was the first time the six Saluki seniors have come away with a win over the Sycamores.
"It's good to win at home, especially one of our conference matches," said coach Sonya Locke. "This win takes us one step closer to our goal."
Middle blocker Lindsey Schultz (senior, Valparaiso, Ind., Wheeler HS) led all hitters with a .607 hitting percentage (19 kills on 28 attacks with two errors). She also had five blocks.
Teammate Kristie Kemner (senior, OH, Quincy, Ill., Quincy Notre Dame HS) recorded her 44th kill-dig double-double by knocking down 23 attacks and digging 28. Kemner also had three aces. Senior Qiana Nelson (OH, Kankakee, Ill., Kankakee HS) also recorded a kill-dig double-double for the Salukis with 12 kills and 18 digs, and had a .346 hitting percentage.
Junior setter Britten Follett (Marengo, Ill., Marengo HS) was credited with 57 assists, eight digs, six kills, and four block assists.
The Salukis hit .278 as a team to Indiana State's .152.
SIU (8-4 overall and 2-1 in the Missouri Valley Conference) hosts Illinois State tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m. in Davies Gym for another conference match.
