Bergen Named MVC Women's Swimmer of the Week

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Sophomore swimmer Briley Bergen was named as the Missouri Valley Conference Women's Swimmer-of-the-Week, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Bergen posted a league best in the 500-yard freestyle event with a time of 5:07.33 in Saturday's win over Lincoln (Ill.) College. Her time of 10:28.98 in the 1000-yard freestyle also tops the conference this season and was just more than eight seconds off the Missouri Valley record set by SIU's Leanne Pienaar in 2001.
The native of Tampa, Fla., won both events this past weekend to help the Salukis grab their first win of the season by a score of 221-18. Bergen will be back in action this weekend, Oct. 25, as SIU matches up against Nebraska on the road.
