CARBONDALE, Ill. - With one meet and one win behind them, the women's swimming and diving team will match up against a much larger competitor this Saturday when it faces Nebraska on the road. SIU looks to see how good of a team it is.
"Nebraska should be a pretty good meet," said women's head coach Jeff Goelz. "They're a Big 12 school, kind of in a rebuilding phase. They're on the way up, we're on the way up too, so it's a good opportunity to race against a Big 12 competitor and see what we can do against a bigger school."
The Salukis brought in 12 freshmen and one junior college transfer this season, but Goelz says it's time for the newcomers to move past the novelty of Division I competition.
"You need to get a swim in to get out the jitters and that's what Lincoln (Ill.) College was. A lot of kids stood up and can no longer say they're rookies," said Goelz.
The dual meet will be held at the Bob Devaney Sports Center Pool in Lincoln, Neb. The event is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. All results can be found at www.SIUSalukis.com or www.Huskers.com.
