EVANSTON, Ill. - The women's swimming team finished the Northwestern Invitational in third place Sunday.
Junior Ashley MacCurdy pulled out a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:07.06 - a season best. Sophomore Kelsey Kinsella grabbed fourth in the 100-yard freestyle, clocking in at 53.27, which is also a season best.
Freshman Nora Bunford once again showed her speed with a time of 2:19.93 in the 200-yard breaststroke and finishing in third place. Bunford's time is just more than a second off the Missouri Valley Conference record set in 1999.
Fellow freshman Michaela Sceli followed Bunford in fourth place with a time of 2:20.64 in the 200 breast. Her time is second best, only to Bunford, for the Salukis this season.
Senior Brigitta Olson finished third in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:03.93, beating her season best by nearly four seconds. Freshman Rachel Winius followed in sixth place, clocking in at 2:07.09.
The 400-yard freestyle relay team grabbed fourth place, finishing in 3:35.94 - a season best by almost eight seconds.
SIU will return to the pool Jan. 10 when it matches up against Indiana and Ohio State on the road. Results can be found at www.SIUSalukis.com.
