Women's Tennis Gets By Wichita State

Carbondale, Ill. - SIU's women's tennis team edged Wichita State 4-3 earlier today in Missouri Valley Conference action in a four and a half hour showdown. The Salukis bounced back from a 7-0 loss to Southwest Missouri State yesterday.
"We made it interesting," stated head coach Judy Auld.
Jessica Knitter (10-9) won the number three singles match over Wendi Webster 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1. Zuzana Palovic defeated Natalia Guzman in number four singles play. The Shockers were unable to fill the sixth seed, and Sophie Bedard won by forfeit.
The Blanco sisters (Alejandra and Maria) defeated their opponents in number one doubles, as did Knitter and Tana Trapani in number two doubles both with a score of 8-6.
The Salukis move to 4-2 in MVC play, and now holds a 7-12 overall record for the spring season. SIU has three home matches scheduled for this week hosting conference foes Indiana State (Thursday, 3 p.m.), Bradley (Friday, 3 p.m.), and Illinois State (Saturday, 10 a.m.).
