Women's Tennis Wins Five Championships At Evansville Invite

EVANSVILLE, Ill. - Seniors Alejandra Blanco and Tana Trapani, who played together for the first time in almost two years, show no signs of rust as they took the Flight Two Doubles Crown on Saturday at the Evansville Invitational.
Blanco and Trapani destroyed Western Kentucky's Kosaka and Underdonk, 8-0. Also winning a doubles championship was SIU sophomore Zoya Honarmand and sophomore Zuzana Palovic. Honarmand and Palovic teamed up to defeat Gracia-Medrano and Vanos of Morehead State, 8-4, to win the Flight Three Doubles Championship.
Trapani also won the Flight Three singles championship after beating Rachel Tessier of UE with a dominating 6-0, 6-1 victory. Palovic and Honarmand also had success in singles play as Honarmand took home the Flight Four singles championship and Palovic won the Flight five singles championship.
While not winning a championship senior Jessica Knitter and junior Maria Blanco put up a fight for the Flight One doubles crown. Knitter and Blanco lost a close battle in the semi-finals agianst Becka and Baernwick of Morehead State, 9-7. Blanco and Knitter both had similiar luck in singles play, with both losing their semi-final matches in Flight One and Flight Two singles, respectively.
SIU will return to the courts on October 3-5 at the Fall Missouri Valley Conference Individual Championships, which will be hosted by Southwest Missouri State in Springfield, Missouri.
