Women's Golf Finishes Second in 10th Annual Saluki Invitational

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Senior Megan Tarrolly tied for fourth to lead the Southern Illinois University women's golf team to a second-place finish earlier today in the 10th Annual Saluki Invitational at Hickory Ridge. SIU (317-317-634) finished 12 strokes behind tournament champion Michigan (310-312-622).
A native of Mequon, Wis., Tarrolly registered her first top-five finish of the season when she placed tied for fourth among 105 individuals competing. Tarrolly shot a 75-78-153 on the two-day event, and as a result, pushed her total of rounds in the 70s to 13 on the year.
Amy Rankin (80-79-159), Samantha Sutzer (81-78-159), Kelly Gerlach (81-82-163), Stefanie Pate (83-86-169) and Sara Pate (93-82-175) rounded out SIU's scoring. Rankin and Sutzer each tied for 10th, while Gerlach tied for 18th, Stefanie Pate tied for 40th and Sara Pate tied for 61st.
As a team, the second-place showing marked SIU's third top-three finish this spring.
Michigan's Laura Olin was this year's Saluki Invitational medalist. Olin shot a 73-75-148. Her first round score of 73 tied for third on the tournament's Top-10 individual first round scores list.
Although there were plenty of other highlights in this year's 17-team tournament, one other that stood out more than most was when Bradley's Whitney Bauer scored a hole-in-one on the par-3, 180-yard eighth hole.
Finishing behind Michigan and SIU were Illinois State (324-315-639), Murray State (330-311-641), Northern Iowa (320-329-649), Bradley (339-315-654), SW Missouri State (330-325-655), Arkansas State (334-329-663), Eastern Kentucky (340-332-672), Wichita State (335-345-680), Western Illinois (335-349-684), Northern Illinois (345-342-687), Ferris State (346-343-689), Eastern Illinois (358-348-706), Creighton (366-357-723), Evansville (372-372-744) and John A. Logan (364-381-745).
SIU returns to action on Apr. 9-10 at the Illini Spring Tournament in Champaign.
