Women's Tennis Falls To Rollins College, 6-3

WINTER PARK, Fla. - The Southern Illinois University women's tennis team evened its record at 3-3 after a loss to Rollins College on Sunday morning. Rollins, ranked #7 in the Division II rankings, defeated the Salukis by a score of 6-3.
SIU was only able to pull out one doubles win as sophomores Zuzana Palovic and Zoya Honarmand defeated Jill Oppenheim and Suzie Aurelio at the No. 3 spot, 8-6. Rollins won two of the the three possible doubles points by winning at the No. 1 and 2 positions, 8-0 and 8-5, respectively.
In the singles matches, the Tars snagged victories at the No. 1, 2, 3 and 4 spots, effectively wrapping up the match with five points, and improving to 8-2 on the season. Palovic and Honarmand were able to come away with singles wins at the final two postions, giving SIU two of its three points during the match.
Palovic defeated Oppenheim in three sets at the No. 5 spot, 6-2, 3-6, 7-5, while Honarmand won against Aurelio, 6-2, 6-0, at the No. 6 spot.
The Salukis continue their Florida road trip with a match against Youngstown State on Tuesday, March 9, in Orlando. Results can be found at www.SIUSalukis.com.
(Division II rules count each doubles match as one point, rather than one point for the best of three in Division I. Since the match was a home match for Rollins College the Division II rules were applied.)
