PEORIA, Ill. - After dropping their first two matches of the weekend the Salukis (7-9, 1-2 MVC) were able to come away with their first Missouri Valley Conference win of the season with a victory over the Braves of Bradley.
Seniors Tana Trapani and Alejandra Blanco once again were able to give the Salukis two wins in singles play. After winning the doubles point, the Salukis felt they had the advantage going into singles play. Blanco set the example for her teammates by capturing a 6-3, 6-0 win over BU's Ashely Morris at the No. 1 spot. Following Blanco's lead, Trapani earned her 55th career win against Marcie Cain, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 4 spot, which puts her nearly 10 wins shy of the top 20 all-time leader board at SIU. Fellow senior Jessica Knitter made light work of Kelley Wood at the No. 3 spot with a 6-0, 6-1 victory.
Also giving the Dawgs quality wins was sophomore Zoya Honarmand and junior Kari Stark. Honarmand was able to come away with a 6-1, 6-4 win at the No. 5 spot while Stark continued to play well, after returning to the team due to injury, with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Marissa Bianchi at the No. 6 spots.
The Salukis will try to build on their MVC record next weekend as they head to Wichita State and to Southwest Missouri State for a duo of matches. All results can be found at www.SIUSalukis.com
