CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Saluki men's and women's swimming and diving teams return to the SIU Student Rec Center Pool to host Western Kentucky in a dual meet at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
"Both Western Kentucky teams are solid and we'll have our hands full this weekend, said Rick Walker, SIU head coach.
Southern Illinois faces an undefeated WKU women's squad (8-0) and once-beaten Hilltopper men's team (5-1), before hosting meets against MVC foes SMS (Jan. 22), Evansville (Feb. 5), and the season-ending MVC Championship and MVC Invitational.
"I'm looking for a win this weekend. We want to compete on a high level following our training session, but our goal is still to focus on the MVC Championship (women) and MVC Invitational (men) at the end of season," added Walker.
The SIU men (3-5) and women (3-3) both beat Indian River Community College, but lost to Texas Christian last weekend in a double dual meet in Florida during their holiday break training session, before returning home Wednesday to prepare for WKU.
" I'm hoping we can focus a little better at home this weekend without the distractions of beaches and warm weather in Florida," Walker stated.
The meet is free and open to the public.
