CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Saluki Swimming and Diving teams will host Missouri Valley Conference rival SMS Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Dr. Edward J. Shea Natatorium.
The women's team looks to avenge two losses to the Bears (6-5) a year ago, including a runner-up finish to the two-time defending MVC championship team. SMS dethroned the Salukis and cut-off a five-year MVC title streak for SIU at the 2003 championships.
The Saluki women, currently 3-4 on the season, are coming off of a 130-113 loss to Western Kentucky Jan. 15. Senior Rachel Green recorded a career-best 53.51 in the 100-yard freestyle, earning MVC weekly honors for her efforts.
On the men's side, the Salukis fell to SMS during a regular season dual at Springfield, Mo. a year ago only to come back and beat the Bears at the MVC Invitational. The Bears (6-3) recently dropped a dual meet to Missouri 156.5-86.5.
Currently 4-5 on the season, the SIU men recently handled Western Kentucky 133-107. Three Saluki swimmers won two events each, including MVC Swimmer of the Week Jason Sigler who won the 500-yard freestyle and the 1000 free.
