Volleyball loses to Missouri State, 3-0

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Southern Illinois' Johannah Yutzy led all players with 15 kills, hitting .500 on the night, but it wasn't enough as Missouri State swept the Salukis 3-0 (30-21, 30-25, 30-28) in Missouri Valley Conference play Friday in Hammons Student Center.
The loss drops SIU to 5-10 on the season and 2-4 in the MVC as the Bears move to 12-6 overall and 5-1 in conference play.
The Saluki offense was held to .152 and .085 in the first two games of the night, but came back strong in game three to hit .395 with only two errors.
Haley Hann added 10 kills and seven digs, while Holly Marita tied a game-high 38 assists and eight digs.
Freshmen Kristy Elswick and Kristie Berwanger stepped up for the Dawgs. Elswick, with a game-high 15 digs and Berwanger with five kills, hitting a career-high .364.
The Salukis travel to Wichita, Kan. Saturday to take on the Shockers, the top ranked team in the Valley.
