Franklin, Ind. - After finishing day one of the 2006 Shoot-out at the Legends in tenth place, Southern Illinois shot a 301 as a team in today's third and final round to move up two spots, finishing tied for eighth place with the University of Iowa.
Campbell University took home the title with a team total of 877 at the two-day tournament. Including SIU, four Missouri Valley Conference teams took part in the tournament. Illinois State finished one spot ahead of SIU with a 905 team total, while Missouri State's 904 was good enough for a sixth place finish and Indiana State's 949 landed them in a tie for 16th place.
Sophomore Braidy Hood led the Salukis, shooting a nine-over par 225 (80-71-74) to finish tied for 16th out of 90 golfers. Junior Christine Zoerlein finished one spot behind Hood as her ten-over par 226 (77-76-73) tied her for tenth place. Senior Josie Lowder shot a 12-over par 228 (73-79-76) to tie for 31st place.
Kelly Gerlach, a redshirt junior returning this season after sitting out last year with an injury, tied for 39th place with her 230 (76-76-78) total through three rounds. Sophomore Lauren May, a transfer from Augusta State in her first season at SIU, finished the tournament in 77th place after a damaging first-round 85 proved to be too much to overcome. May finished with a 27-over par 243 (85-79-79) at the Legends.
The Salukis will take next week off before traveling to Honolulu for the Kent Youel Invitational on Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 24-25.
